A recording of Lou Reed reciting the lyrics, which was played at a posthumous lecture, accompanied by Richard Barone and Suzanne Vega. From: Lou Reed: A Life—An Evening with Anthony DeCurtis, Richard Barone, Jeff Ross and Suzanne Vega, on Oct 15, 2017 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. I heard this recording for the first time recently, on the program In the Margin -- Wednesdays from 4-5:30 pm here on WMBR. Thanks, Sue!
Recorded in 1968, the “Closet Mix,” which was produced by Reed, boosts his vocals and lowers its instruments. “Morrison noted that it sounds like it was recorded in a closet, which led to its label as the ‘closet mix’" [according to Wikipedia]. This version was released in the 5-CD box set Peel Slowly and See.
