Drummer Isaac 'Redd' Holt died on May 23rd, at age 91. He and Eldee Young (bass), members of The Ramsey Lewis group since 1956, left in 1966 to form the "Young-Holt Trio", with pianist Don Walker, and had a Top-40 hit with 'Wack Wack''. In 1968, the group renamed itself "Young-Holt Unlimited", replacing Walker with Ken Chaney. Their biggest hit was 'Soulful Strut' (R&B, Pop #3/ 11-68), the backing track to Barbara Acklin's "Am I The Same Girl?'. After they broke up in 1974, Holt continued on as "Redd Holt Unlimited", playing under this name well into the 1990s.

Dion (full name "Diom DiMucci") was born in July of 1939. After several singles on 1957, he was paired with The Belmonts; as 'Dion & The Belmonts' - they had a number of hits till Dion went solo in Sept 1960. Dion also had a number of hits as a solo artist, including 'Runaround Sue', 'The Wanderer' and in 1968 'Abraham, Martin and John '. He has continued to release albums periodicvally, with two since he turned 80, in 2020, 2021. He is one of the few artists to release original records in seven different decades.

Tony 'T.S'. McPhee, the founder, leader, singer and guitarist of The Groundhogs died June 6th, at age 79. She joined on piano with guitarist Stan Webb and bass player Andy Silvester in 1967 in the group "Sounds Of Blue", which became Chicken Shack. They had an English hit with her rendition of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind" (UK #14/ 05-69}. She left after their 1st two LPs, after marrying John McVie of Fleetwood Mac in 1968, and had a solo album in early 1970. She joined Fleetwood Mac in summer of 1970, playing uncredited, but becoming a full-time member on the "Future Games" album, Sept 1971.

Maureen Kennedy of the English vocal group The Vernons Girls was born in July of 1940. Formed in the mid-1950s in Liverpool, they were originally a 16-member group in the late 1950s on the ITV music show "Oh Boy", though by 1961 they were down to 5 members. They were session singers, doing backing vocals on English hits on the Decca label, such as Billy Fury's 1st hit, "Maybe Tomorrow". {UK #18/ 02-59}.
Tony Thorpe, guitarist, singer in the Rubettes from 1974–1979, was born in July of 1945. Thorpe started in The Music Biz as the bandleader/ guitarist for Wee Willie Harris. The Rubettes were created by the songwriting team of Wayne Bickerton and Tony Waddington after 'Sugar Baby Love', recorded with studio musicians, was a big hit {UK #1!, US #37/ 08-74}. They were _much_bigger in England than the US, with nine Top-20 UK singles from May 1974 to May 1977. Astrud Gilberto (born as 'Astrud Evangelina Weinert'), a Brazilian singer who helped popularize the Bossa Nova sound, died June 5th, at age 82. She married João Gilberto in 1959, "The Father of Bossa Nova". Her signature recording was 'The Girl From Ipanema'(#5/ 06-64}, which became one of the most covered songs in the history of pop music. In 1964, she appeared in the films 'Get Yourself a College Girl' and 'The Hanged Man'. She recorded 10 albums from 1965 to 1972. ..... ALSO ... the songwriter, Ruthann Friedman, was born in July of 1944. She got her start in The Music Biz as part of "The Hippie Migration", going up and down the California Coast and living off her earnings from performing solo. In the course of her travels, she met Van Dyke Parks, who introduced her to The Association, who recorded this song.
